A whole world of upholstery options

Upholstery can offer you a satisfying hobby, a part-time income stream or even a whole new career. Knowing how and where to start can be overwhelming though. What are the qualities required? How do you pick the perfect projects to tackle whilst training? Which tools do you need to get started? Which kind of course of course or training should you sign up for… And much, much more.

I’m Sharon O’Connor and I have created the Virtual Vintique: Upholstery Uncovered guide to give you the answers to questions that I wish I’d known before I embarked on my upholstery journey. Since starting out over 10 years ago, not only have I mastered this skill, I have also changed my life.

Are you thinking about taking an upholstery course?

Every week I am inundated with questions from people asking how I got started in upholstery. Make no mistake – upholstery is a technical skill and there is a lot of training required. But knowing how to go about it can be confusing.

This video guide will answer all the questions you may be having and help you decide whether to take the next steps to signing up to a training course and making upholstery a skill you’ll love forever.

This is not a technical guide to upholstery. This is all the knowledge and information I’ve learnt about the best route to BECOMING an upholsterer. It will provide answers to all your burning questions and ensure you begin your upholstery training with your eyes wide open, armed with all the information you’ll need to follow the right path for YOU.

Meet Sharon O'Connor

Founder of Vintique Upholstery

Hi, I’m Sharon. I fell in love with upholstery after buying a wrecked Guy Rogers sofa from eBay and deciding to revamp it with the help of a professional upholsterer. There was something about the whole process, including sourcing a beautiful velvet fabric, that lit a spark and resulted in so much more than I could have ever imagined.

Not only did I have a bespoke sofa that I loved, but also a desire to learn the craft of upholstery and continue to indulge my love of interiors and furniture.

That was back in 2013. Since then, I’ve set up a successful business, Vintique Upholstery and appear as a resident upholstery expert on the BBC’s Money for Nothing.

I have been dedicated to restoring, re-upholstering, reviving and re-designing pre-loved items of furniture for hundreds of clients from my studio workshop in Sunbury-on-Thames.

Now, I want to share my tips, ideas and secrets with you that I’ve learnt along the way. My online guide provides answers to questions that I wish I had known before I embarked on my upholstery journey. I hope I can inspire you that upholstery may be a craft you’ll fall in love with too.
